About us

  • Gender Etc. is a research consultancy which focuses on all aspects of gender, intersectionality, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA).
  • Why Gender Etc.? Because gender is never just about gender but always intersects with other identity characteristics. It is an ironic recognition of the way gender is seen as one of several add-ons, along with other social categories such as age, race/ethnicity, wealth/poverty, dis/ability, and all the unnamed others which are labelled 'etc').
  • Despite advances, a gender gap remains which results in inequalities, injustices, opportunity gaps and simple inefficiencies for women and men, girls and boys, and those who do not identify with simple binary labels.
  • There is a gender gap in all parts of the world - before, during and after disaster.
  • Gender Etc. was launched on 1 August 2015 by Maureen Fordham maureen.fordham@genderetc.co.uk as its Director plus other gender scholars who have engaged with its activities.
